Tui Na Body Work
Tui Na Body Work
Tui Na, translated as “push, pull” may be used on its own or combined with acupuncture. It may be described as a form of acupressure. It is most often used for muscular tension and tightness. Tui Na is also very good for detoxifying the body.
In this session the practitioner uses a combination of acupressure and vigorous kneading and stimulation of the acupuncture points and meridians. The movements are performed along the main acupuncture channels to flush out stiffness and toxins that may be blocking energy flow. Some Tui Na motions are described as clapping, grasping , chopping, rolling and tapping. There is just enough pressure to stimulate the channels, but it should not be vigorous enough to cause pain.
Tui Na is normally performed with the client dressed in loose, light, comfortable clothing or over top of light sheets. It can be also be done on bare skin with a light covering of massage oil, but since the movements are somewhat forceful, the client may have red areas on the skin afterward. The client is normally either seated or lying on their stomach.
After a Tui Na session the client may feel that their muscles are “tired” or as if they have done a moderate work-out. Mostly, clients should feel wonderfully relaxed!
At Acupuncture Guelph, Bonnie often does a brief bit of Tui Na before acupuncture to loosen up tight muscles. It can be done in combination with other services or on its own.
